First Week at Moroch!

I intern at Moroch on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week.

When I walked in Tuesday my first task was to fill out paperwork for the company. One of my supervisors, Katie McClelland, helped me set up my office cubicle, figure out the computers, the printer/scanner...the basics.

I spent the rest of the day working on an upcoming film, Brooklyn's Finest. The film stars some big names: Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes. It centers around three cops' lives and how they all dramatically, and apparently pretty violently according to reviews, collide over drugs and police corruption.

I watched trailers, read movie reviews and researched target audiences to figure out how and where to promote the film locally. I did a lot of critical thinking about who would see the movie, what age they would be, where they would go to eat, hang out, etc. One part I really like about public relations is the psychology involved in targeting publics so it was a fitting first task.

Thursday I set up a twitter account to get connected to Moroch's employees and clients. I spent awhile figuring everything out and finding people. After that I got to dig around a room where all the promotional items and posters are kept. Boxes piled high, posters stacked everywhere, a few boxes of t-shirts and random magnifying glasses and themed memo boards fill the room. I got to pick posters to decorate my cubicle and then organized boxes of old promotional items and art supplies.

Near the end of the day I got to take the company credit card to Target and look for some Valentine's Day t-shirts for a promotional stunt on Friday. The plan was to have me and a guy (I got to pick my boyfriend for the spot!) be handcuffed together and deliver promotional items in gift bags to local radio stations. The stunt was for the movie The Bounty Hunter starring Gerard Butler and Jennifer Anniston.

I was surprised to learn that several radio stations work out of the same office area. It's like working with your competition, which I thought was interesting. We brought in the gift bags for each station. The gift bags I delivered today (Friday) included chocolate handcuffs and a "Guide to Hooking Up With Your Ex" themed off the movie.

So far I'm loving it!
